Charlotte Ashton was recently appointed as Principal Flute of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2015, with a First Class Honours and the "Principal's Prize", where she learned flute with Karen Jones and Sam Coles and piccolo with Sophie Johnson and Helen Keen. Her formal musical training began at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music, aged eleven, before joining The Purcell School for Young Musicians in 2008, where she studied under Clare Southworth.

She is the recipient of numerous awards, including Making Music’s Philip & Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists, the Royal Academy’s Chris Taylor Flute Award and the Harold Craxton Memorial Trust Award, as well as winning the 2015 Royal Overseas League Wind, Brass & Percussion finals.  She has given recitals in venues across the country, such as Bristol’s Colston Hall, and appeared as a soloist with the City of London Sinfonia at the Cadogan Hall.  Upcoming engagements include recitals at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, St. Martin in the Fields, St James's Church Piccadilly and St. John's Smith Square.

Charlotte has appeared as Guest Principal Flute with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Halle Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia, and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.  She has also worked with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Welsh National Opera.  She was Principal Flute of the Britten-Pears Orchestra, and was selected for the London Sinfonietta Academy 2014 and the London Symphony Orchestra Wind Academy 2015.
